IntegratED With Jamie Palmer - A podcast for online entrepreneurs

Oct 24, 2019

Let’s talk about the dark side of entrepreneurship.

When you first decide to become an entrepreneur, there are a lot of things that aren’t shared with you about how much work it is to run your own business. I was very lucky to have the support of my family because both of my parents are executives that have friends who run entrepreneurial businesses. I could always go to them and ask for advice when I needed it, which is not something that everyone can do.

The other day, I was having a conversation with one of their friends who runs a multi-million dollar business. He has hundreds of workers and contractors who work for him. As I was asking him questions, something didn’t feel right so I asked him straight out if everything was okay. He told me that he wanted to be transparent and that he wasn’t excited about his business anymore. He had been struggling for a while with the idea that he no longer was happy with the business he had built.

I thought this was an important message to share. For most entrepreneurs, we start our business with the intention that it’s going to be a certain way – freedom, money, and doing something that you’re passionate about day in and day out. Truth be told, nobody talks about all the hard work that you have to do to grow your business as an entrepreneur. Even as being an entrepreneur becomes more mainstream, it’s still not easy information to find.

Business ownership has its ups and downs. Think of it as a rollercoaster – there are going to be crazy challenges. No matter what level you’re at, you’re going to have to face these differences. I’ve learned the hard way that your business will only grow as much as you grow. If you aren’t willing to work on yourself and your mindset, you’re going to be limiting how happy you are in business. I’m going to be talking about the dark side of entrepreneurship, so make sure to tune in to this episode!
