IntegratED With Jamie Palmer - A podcast for online entrepreneurs

Aug 29, 2019

Let’s talk about marketing for the long game and the ROI you can expect to see for your efforts. I thought it would be funny to share with you guys a story about the ROI of this podcast. We’re 289 episodes in and I’ve finally seen a sale based on this podcast. I had a client who said specifically that they wanted to work with me because they listen to the podcast. This was a big client, who was going to be with us for the long term and a pretty big contract for us to get. To me, I always knew when I went into doing the podcast that it was going to be a long term game for me. Almost all of marketing is long term, not short term.

Most people that I’ve seen go into their marketing thinking that they’re going to do something for 3 months and see an ROI. We’ve been doing this podcast for a year and a half and just had our first sale because of it. I would contend that these people are playing the short game and want an immediate ROI, which isn't realistic.

The best thing that you can do for your business is to start tracking where your marketing efforts are going, and what you’re getting back. We have a software system that does this for us, and we also track each sale in a spreadsheet. There we can write their name, email, the value of the sale, and where they came from. This makes it super easy to track what marketing efforts are working and which aren’t. That being said, I often see people commit to a marketing initiative like Facebook ads, podcasting or creating Youtube videos and they quit after 3 months. Three months is not long enough to know the value that something could have for your business! If you want to know how to successfully track your ROI for the long term, keep listening.
